KEIKOU NISHIMURA URUSHI ART STUDIO

Master Keikou Nishimura (founder of the Keikou name) established his Kyoto studio in the early 1900s.Traditional Japanese lacquerware production functions under a system of division of labor. The Keikou studio specializes in the finishing coats (UWANURISHI). Currently headed by 3rd generation Master Keikou, the studio specializes in Tea Ceremony implements and has been instrumental in keeping the traditional skills of Kyoto alive. Lacquerware created from carefully chosen materials cover the full spectrum of standard and modern designs. He continues to surprise us with new interpretations in the world of lacquerware.

Keikou Ⅲ Nishimura (1966–)

Education / Training
1966
Born in Kyoto city as the first son of second-generation Keikou.
1981
He entered in Doda art high school of Kyoto and started a career in lacquer arts.
1985
Enrolled apprentice to the Master Hyosaku Ⅲ Suzuki.
1994
Returned to his home and lerned top coating technique from his father, second- generation Keikou.
2008
Succeeded to the title of Keikou Ⅲ
